You're Probably Wondering...
-
Believe it or not, this is one of the most common concerns people have before starting therapy.
Many clients worry they'll log into their session, stare at me, and suddenly forget every problem they've ever had.
I promise you're not the first person to think that.
You don't need to arrive with a perfectly organized list of concerns. You don't need a speech. You don't even need to know exactly why you're feeling the way you're feeling.
Sometimes we start with, "I don't even know where to begin."
And honestly? That's usually a pretty good place to start.
-
I accept select insurance plans as well as private-pay clients.
If I'm not in-network with your insurance plan, I can provide a superbill that you may be able to submit for out-of-network reimbursement.
Insurance language can feel like reading a foreign language written by people who hate joy, so if you're unsure what your benefits include, I encourage you to contact your insurance company directly.
And if you're still confused afterward, you're not alone.
-
All sessions are conducted through Upheal, a secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform designed specifically for mental health professionals and their clients.
Before your appointment, you'll receive a secure link to join your session. At your scheduled appointment time, simply click the link from your phone, tablet, or computer.
Many clients are surprised by how natural virtual therapy feels. In fact, some people find it easier to open up when they're sitting in a familiar environment rather than an unfamiliar office.
All you'll need is a reliable internet connection and a private space where you can speak freely.
-
I currently provide virtual therapy services to adults located in Virginia, Florida, South Carolina, and Idaho.
Because licensing laws vary by state, clients must be physically located in one of these states at the time of each session.
Unfortunately, even if you're one state line over while on vacation, the rules still apply.
-
First things first...
You're not broken.
So there's nothing for me to "fix."
I know that's probably not the answer you're looking for, but it's the honest one.
Therapy isn't about becoming a perfect version of yourself. It's about understanding yourself more deeply, creating healthier patterns, improving relationships, and responding to life differently.
Some clients come in with a specific goal and feel ready to wrap up therapy within a few months.
Others stay longer because they realize there's value in having a space dedicated entirely to their growth.
The better question is usually:
"How long will it take before I start feeling different?"
And the answer is often sooner than people expect.
-
Awareness is a great start.
But knowing something and changing something are two different things.
Many clients come to therapy knowing exactly what they're struggling with.
The challenge isn't identifying the pattern.
The challenge is understanding why it keeps showing up and learning how to respond differently.
-
Absolutely.
Some of my favorite clients have been men.
Many of the same struggles that bring women to therapy also bring men to therapy: anxiety, relationship challenges, communication issues, stress, burnout, self-worth concerns, family dynamics, and figuring out how to navigate life without carrying everything alone.
You don't have to fit a certain stereotype to benefit from therapy.
You just have to be willing to show up honestly.
-
Not exactly.
If you're looking for someone to make all of your decisions for you, I'm probably going to disappoint you.
What I will do is help you understand yourself more clearly.
We'll explore patterns, blind spots, fears, relationship dynamics, and the stories you've been telling yourself.
Then we'll figure out what actually aligns with your values and goals.
That said, my style is direct.
If I notice a pattern, I'm probably going to bring it up.
Kindly.
But we're definitely going to talk about it.
-
I work especially well with people who spend a lot of time in their own heads.
The overthinkers.
The analyzers.
The "let me replay that conversation from three weeks ago" crowd.
The people everyone depends on.
The people who struggle to ask for help.
The ones who are great at showing up for everyone else but aren't quite sure how to show up for themselves.
If you've ever thought:
"I know what my problem is, but I keep doing it anyway."
We'll probably have plenty to talk about.
-
Then you're actually in great company.
Many of my clients aren't in crisis.
They're functioning.
They're working.
They're paying bills.
They're maintaining relationships.
They're getting things done.
But they're exhausted.
Or stuck.
Or disconnected.
Or frustrated by patterns that keep showing up.
Therapy isn't reserved for emergencies.
It's also a place for growth, self-discovery, better relationships, healthier boundaries, and becoming more intentional about how you move through life.
-
That's completely okay.
You don't need to know exactly what to say or where to start.
That's my job.
Many of my clients are new to therapy, and we'll move at a pace that feels comfortable and productive for you.
-
Progress isn't always dramatic.
Sometimes it looks like stronger boundaries.
Healthier relationships.
Less overthinking.
More confidence.
More peace.
Sometimes progress is subtle before it's obvious. We'll regularly check in on your goals so you can recognize the changes that are happening, even when they don't feel dramatic.
-
I'm based in Richmond, Virginia, but all therapy sessions are conducted virtually.
That means you can attend therapy from the comfort of your home, office, or any private location where you feel comfortable speaking openly.
No commute. No waiting room. No trying to fight traffic before discussing your feelings.
-
Think of the first session as a conversation, not an interrogation.
We'll talk about what's bringing you to therapy, what's been weighing on you lately, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping might be different.
You don't need to impress me.
You don't need to have the right words.
You don't need to have a neat little summary of your life prepared.
My goal isn't to analyze you within the first ten minutes. My goal is to understand you.
Most clients leave the first session feeling relieved because they realize they don't have to carry everything by themselves anymore.
We’re Probably Not a Good Fit If…
Because not every therapist is the right therapist, and that's okay.
You're hoping someone else will tell you exactly what to do.
You're unwilling to examine your own patterns.
You're looking for someone to make the discomfort disappear overnight.
You're not looking to be challenged, only comforted.
